Need of Intelligent Software Systems in Power Industry

Power industry is a very rapid growing area all across the globe especially in the developing countries. Optimized power plant operation & maintenance is the requirement of the present scenario. Optimized O&M does not only increase profit margin but also increase the life of the equipments and in turn plant.Availability of a power unit is also a very important aspect.To have a high availability of any power unit, it is important to improve the equipments life & performance.

Forced outages can hamper any power utility bottom line.So, early warning systems could be very handy to detect any upcoming problem in equipments and thus can eliminate secondary damages.

With the advent of high quality sensors and probes, flood of process data is available in real time to us.Also the accuracy of these sensors are improving day by day thus reliability on these process data is also getting increased with time.Now the situation is such that although the DAS (Data Acquisition systems) are providing huge amount of data in real time, but companies are not able to fully utilize such huge amount to the data. Developing intelligent systems using these data can lead to very important insight to current plant operation scenario. Detecting and utilizing the patterns can also be very useful in detecting problems in process or equipment.So few important areas where intelligent software systems can be very useful are as follows:
